I have been dealing with the tedious task of looking for a full time job for about six months now. Filling out countless applications. Getting called for interviews and feeling like there’s hope. Only to be disappointed by an email telling me the company decided to go with another applicant.
I know a lot of people have been or are going through this same cycle. The process may seem endless, but it is so important to stay motivated. There were times when I felt like a complete loser because no one was hiring me. But looking at the positives is what kept me going.
I realized that interviewing so many times and not getting the desired position caused me to analyze my answers more. After an interview I would go home and say to myself, “What could I have done/said differently?” Having to interview also helped me to become more comfortable with the interview atmosphere. I learned how to stay calm under pressure. (Take a look at the video included in this previous post of mine to find out how body language can increase your confidence.)
It was tough not to get discouraged, but you can look at all of your attempts as trial runs. You will eventually come across your dream job and, since you’ve had so much practice, you will be extremely prepared to ace the interview process.
After six months, I am happy to say that I have finally been hired for my first full time position. So if I can do it, you can too. Stay positive and persistent!
